Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island descends into chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player's only chance for survival is to fight to the death and find a way to escape the island.

Dead Island combines first-person action with a focus on melee combat, character development, and customization of a vast array of weapons. All these gameplay features are presented in a grim story inspired by classic zombie films, with a brutal and gripping campaign that can be played by up to four players in co-op mode.

The game takes place on an open-world tropical island. Hordes of various festering zombies await players around every corner as they embark on a variety of exciting missions at the resort. With firearms and ammunition scarce, players must rely on scavenged items for self-defense and fend off hordes of zombies in intense hand-to-hand combat. A variety of items can be collected, which can later be used to transform the player's simple, improvised weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

Dead Island will not only satisfy the most bloodthirsty action fan's fantasy, but also features role-playing elements that allow players to develop one of the unique character classes to suit their preferences, while learning new skills and tactics as they journey through the island's dangerous environments. Furthermore, up to four players can easily team up at any time during the game and experience intense combat and a gripping storyline with cooperative gameplay.

Powered by the all-new Chrome Engine 5, Dead Island will utilize the latest version of Techland's renowned game engine, allowing players to immerse themselves in a tropical island paradise in graphical splendor with diverse environments, including dense forests and detailed urban environments.
