Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods and Kings spans a vast period of time—from the founding of the first pantheon of gods and the spread of religion across the world to the era of international espionage. Both—religion and espionage—are two completely new and extremely important facets of the new Civilization. Faith and knowledge, gods and kings—these are what drive people, build empires, and destroy them.
The Gods and Kings expansion will introduce nine more civilizations to the game, including Carthage, the Netherlands, and the Maya, along with nine wonders of the world, a multitude of units, buildings, and technologies. It will also feature three large-scale scenarios. You will have the opportunity to transform a medieval state into one of the greatest European powers of the Renaissance. You can wage war against the barbarians on the side of the Western Roman Empire or the Byzantine Empire, and if you prefer, you can even lead the barbarians themselves. Or perhaps you dream of building flying ships and giant tanks in a sci-fi scenario set in the Victorian era? The power is yours.
• Civilizations. Nine new civilizations, including Carthage, the Netherlands, and the Maya, join the struggle for total dominance, each with unique traits, units, and buildings.
• Tools. New technologies, 27 units, 13 buildings, 9 wonders of the world, including Neuschwanstein Castle, the Great Mosque of Djenne, the Terracotta Army, and the Hubble Space Telescope.
• Religion. In their search for faith, people created a pantheon of gods. By strengthening your faith, you can acquire a Great Prophet and, with his help, transform simple beliefs into a full-fledged religion—one to suit your tastes.
• Diplomacy and Espionage. Establish embassies at foreign courts to strengthen international ties... or conduct covert operations.
• City-States. Two new types of metropolises—trade and religious—are on the virtual world stage, each bringing their own nuances to the grand game.
• World ***. The struggle for supremacy will be much more dynamic and intense than before, as the combat system has been significantly redesigned, and the significantly smarter artificial intelligence has learned to form much more balanced armies.
• Naval Battles. Your ships are now divided into two types—close-combat and long-range. This means no coastal city will feel safe, as it can be attacked from the sea at any moment.
• New scenarios. Transform a medieval state into one of the greatest European powers of the Renaissance; fight the barbarians on the side of the Western Roman Empire or Byzantium, or lead the barbarians themselves; Build flying ships and giant tanks and conquer the world in a sci-fi Victorian-era setting.
