Trine is a fantasy action game in which the player can create and use physical objects to solve dangerous puzzles and defeat dangerous enemies. Set in a world of large castles and strange machines, three heroes are connected to a mysterious device called Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil.

The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics - each character's different abilities help the player fight the undead army and defeat dangerous contraptions. The player can freely choose at any time who is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle: the Wizard can summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles, the Thief uses his agility and absolute precision to quickly catch monsters off guard, and the Knight wreaks havoc and physical destruction wherever he goes.
