The AH-64 helicopter entered service in 1986 and about 2,400 vehicles were built during this time. Since 2003, the AH-64D has been the backbone of the U.S. Army's strike aircraft. Based on the AH-64A, the “D” modification is a helicopter with a tandem cockpit, where the pilot is in the back seat, and the co-pilot - gunner (CP/G) is located in the front. The AH-64D, armed with a 30 mm automatic cannon in the nose, Hellfire missiles and 2.75-inch missiles on external suspensions, has proven its effectiveness in Iraq and Afghanistan against a wide range of threats.
