T-72AV (TURMS-T)
Adopted in 1973, the T-72 tank has subsequently undergone numerous upgrades in terms of protection and firepower. The premium T-72AV TURMS-T is a 2003 export version equipped with the Italian-made TURMS-T fire control system with a high-resolution thermal imager for the gunner and commander. The tank's armor was also reinforced with Kontakt-1 explosive reactive armor, which provided increased protection against shaped-charge warheads and increased crew survivability. The tank is armed with a powerful 125mm 2A46M cannon with dual-plane stabilization and a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun, a 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun, and an 81mm smoke grenade launcher with eight grenades—four salvos of two grenades each. The 780 hp engine allows the tank to reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h.
