42 years after the events of System Shock 1, Tri-Optimum Corporation, with the support of the United Nations Nominated (UNN), creates and launches the first FTL (Fast-Travel-Live) spaceship, the Von Braun. The idea for the FTL drive belongs to M. Delacroix, a Nobel Prize winner who was appointed Chief Design Engineer on the ship. The ship's safety was to be ensured by the docked destroyer Rickenbaker, commanded by W.B. Diego, the son of E. Diego, the man responsible for the Citadel Station tragedy in 2072. The captain of the Von Braun itself was A. Korenechkin, a greedy and avaricious UNN official with little flight experience who was promoted to high command for political reasons. The main role in the game is given to a common soldier who, four years before the VB flight, enlisted in the UNN as a space marine and underwent four years of training. Recruited and serving as a simple security guard on the destroyer Rickenbaker, he agreed to undergo a neural-cybernetic interface implantation at the suggestion of Dr. J. Polito, head of the ship's operations and computing center. Upon awakening, the soldier found himself a human cyborg, partially lost his memory of recent events, and horrified to discover that the vast majority of the crew had either perished or transformed into horrific hybrid mutants, while a new life form unknown to Earth science had appeared on the ship. Fortunately, Dr. Polito was able to contact him, informing him that he was to meet her in her private office on Deck 4 of the ship.
What lies behind all this, what will the soldier who reaches Polito's office discover, and what consequences will it lead to? You will find out by completing this magnificent and brilliant game, recognized as one of the best first-person 3D action games with RPG elements of the 20th century.
